Chemical Ali Sentenced To Hang: Today's Cartoon

Iraq's notorious "Chemical Ali" was sentenced to hang for masterminding a military campaign against the Kurds in the late 1980's, which involved the use of chemical weapons on civilian targets. Yet, as horrific as those crimes were, I think it's important to note that it was during that time when the United States was supporting Iraq in its war against Iran that Saddam's regime obtained those WMD's and was enabled to use them.

Of course, that's not to say that the U.S. should bare any direct responsibility for what happened to the Kurds. I mean, the Reagan Administration only instructed Saddam on "how" to use those weapons, not "where"; and besides, there are SO many other uses for chemical agents than harming other people. For example, did you know that Hydrogen Cyanide could also be used to manufacture synthetic fibers?

So, whose to say that it wasn't the true intention of the White House to provide Saddam Hussein with the mean to manufacture and equip his entire army with an arsenal of tight spandex bicycle shorts, to confuse and frighten his enemies into submission... Now that's what I call "Shock and Awe" ;)
