Israel Offers Regional Peace Conference: Today's Cartoon

It seems to me that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's offer to host a regional conference with Arab leaders to discuss the details of their land-for-peace initiative would be a clever way for Israel to get what it ultimately desires, which is official "recognition". I mean, how can someone actually travel to a place that to them doesn't even exist?

Through this proposal, it would appear that Olmert is in a sense trying to re-interpret the state of Israel within the minds of the Arab people, by replacing their long-held image of an illegitimate occupier and replacing it with that of a Jewish "Neverland", which can only exist if they believe in it. And the best way to get them to do that, is by offering them incentives, such as a forum for discussing an independent state for the all those Palestinian "Lost Boys".

Once that's been accomplished, getting Arab leaders to attend a regional peace summit in Israel should be as easy as "second star (of David) on the right and straight on 'til morning" ;)
