Today's Cartoon: Civil War Looms In Iraq

I guess when the "mainstream media" begins to use "Civil War" to describe the situation in Iraq, it pretty much becomes "official"; even though the actual fighting among Shiites and Sunnis has been going on for a quite a while now.

I guess all the media needed was an "event" to symbolize the beginning of this new chapter of violence in Iraq; and sadly it appears that they now have one.

I remember when the initial US invasion of Iraq ended in 2003; and the looting that took place afterwards was quickly dismissed as an "untidy" freedom. Just a part of free people being "free". In fact, most of what has taken place in Iraq has been justified simply by comparing it to America's own historical struggle to form the democracy it has today. So does this mean that a "Civil War" would also be considered an essential part of Iraq's "growing pains"?

If that's the case, then at this rate Iraq still have two World Wars, a Great Depression to look forward to by the end of the year.
